Venice Architecture Biennale 2023
Plate Creations produced videos for two exhibits at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023: "Unsettled Ground" by Justin Hui and "Common Ground: Constructing Civic Spaces of the Future" conceptualized by Kris Provoost Photography. Our objective is to illustrate how the architectural designs of Hong Kong, viewed through an innovative lens, engage with the ever-evolving future and epitomize the city's distinctive urban typology.
In the artwork of "Unsettled Ground," we collaborated with Justin to visually contrast photos captured over the past decade at construction sites in the northern border areas of Hong Kong with those from Chinese construction sites in African countries. We paired and presented these comparisons in a video format.
For "Common Ground: Constructing Civic Spaces of the Future," we collaborated to create a video featuring a left-to-right stutters format. This video combines real photos and illustrated floor plans of public housing estate shopping centers in Hong Kong from the past, present, and future. The aim is to explore the unique architectural styles that represent Hong Kong.
